Signs It’s Time to Call a Plumber
Small warning signs often come before a blocked drain overflows:
Water draining slowly from the sink, shower or bath
A gurgle from the toilet when the basin drains
A toilet that needs two flushes or blocks regularly
Sewer smells in the bathroom, laundry or yard
Downpipes spilling over, or water pooling after rain
If more than one fixture is affected, the blockage is likely in the main line.
Woolstores turned apartments. Teneriffe’s riverfront wool stores were built from 1909, and by 2000 many had been converted into apartments, several of them heritage-listed. Apartments now dominate, at 88% of occupied dwellings in 2021. Converted buildings can pair original structures with newer plumbing, so tracing a blocked shared line takes care, and a drain camera helps.
Queenslanders on the hill. Most of the suburb’s Queenslander homes have been kept and renovated. Their underground sewer pipes can be decades old, with joints that crack or shift over time.
Street trees and gardens. Florence Street’s old street trees shade its outdoor dining, and gardens around older homes add more. Roots travel a long way looking for water and can get into cracked private sewer and stormwater pipes.

Yes. We work through the building manager or body corporate, use the existing inspection openings, and camera-check the line so the cause is clear before anyone approves further work.
Roots keep blocking the drain at our Queenslander. What can we do?
Clearing the roots gets water flowing again, but they’ll come back through the same gap. A camera shows the damaged section, and we can price a repair so you can decide.
