Signs It’s Time to Call a Plumber
Small warning signs often come before a blocked drain overflows:
Water draining slowly from the sink, shower or bath
A gurgle from the toilet when the basin drains
A toilet that needs two flushes or blocks regularly
Sewer smells in the bathroom, laundry or yard
Downpipes spilling over, or water pooling after rain
If more than one fixture is affected, the blockage is likely in the main line.
Post-war houses on big blocks. Stafford grew mainly after World War II, and many homes are Queensland Housing Commission houses built on quarter-acre blocks in the 1940s and 1950s. Drains of that age can have worn or shifted joints, and on a big block the sewer line can run a long way past gardens and trees, where roots can find their way in.
Units and rentals. In the 2021 Census, flats and apartments made up about 24% of occupied dwellings, and nearly half of all homes were rented. Where units share a drain, one blockage can affect several homes, so we work with tenants, property managers and body corporates to find the blocked section.
Kedron Brook. Stafford’s southern edge follows Kedron Brook, which flooded during the 2022 Brisbane floods. On lower ground near the brook, stormwater pits and pipes can be slow to clear in heavy rain, especially once leaves and silt have built up.

The drain is cleared with machines or high-pressure water jetting, depending on whether the cause is roots, grease, wipes or silt.

Tree roots keep blocking our drain. Can you stop them coming back?
Clearing removes the roots inside the pipe, but they can grow back through the same cracked joint. A CCTV inspection shows where they’re getting in, so we can talk you through repairing that section and give you the price first.
Our unit block’s drain is blocked. Can you deal with the body corporate?
Yes. We work with property managers and body corporates. We find which section of the shared drain is blocked, clear it, and report what we found so the right party can approve any further work.
Does living near Kedron Brook affect my stormwater?
It can. On low ground near the brook, heavy rain can leave stormwater pits and pipes slow to drain. Keeping pits, gutters and downpipes clear helps, and we can clear and camera-check pipes that keep overflowing.
