Signs It’s Time to Call a Plumber
Small warning signs often come before a blocked drain overflows:
Water draining slowly from the sink, shower or bath
A gurgle from the toilet when the basin drains
A toilet that needs two flushes or blocks regularly

St Lucia: University, River Flats and Hillside Homes
A university suburb. The University of Queensland occupies the eastern third of St Lucia. At the 2021 Census the median age was 25 and about one household in five was a group household. Share houses put a lot through one toilet and kitchen sink, and wipes and food scraps are frequent culprits.
Apartments on the river flats. The flatter northern side is mostly medium to high density, including high-rise apartments on the riverfront. In January 2011 floodwater filled the basements of numerous riverside apartments and reached postwar homes along Sir Fred Schonell Drive, so clear stormwater drains matter on this low ground.
Family homes in the hills. The hillier centre and south are mainly low-density family homes, and after the war academics built houses in Ironside, some of innovative modern design. Pipework under an established home can crack or shift at the joints, especially near large trees.
