Signs It’s Time to Call a Plumber
Small warning signs often come before a blocked drain overflows:
Water draining slowly from the sink, shower or bath
A gurgle from the toilet when the basin drains
A toilet that needs two flushes or blocks regularly
Sewer smells in the bathroom, laundry or yard
Downpipes spilling over, or water pooling after rain
If more than one fixture is affected, the blockage is likely in the main line.
Ridgetops and gullies. Paddington lies in the foothills of Mount Coot-tha and is extremely hilly, with many peaks and gullies. Given and Latrobe Terraces follow the ridgetops, and in the 1974 flood it was only the houses in the gullies and dips that were affected. Low yards collect water from the slopes above, so a blocked pit or pipe there can overflow in heavy rain.
Cottages on small blocks. Most homes sit on small blocks by Queensland standards, and many are workers’ cottages and Queenslanders with corrugated iron roofs, often from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Old pipework under these homes can have worn joints that let roots in.
Rosalie’s low ground. In January 2011, Brisbane River floodwater ran through Dunmore and Gregory Parks as far as the Rosalie shopping centre and Fernberg Road, much as it had in 1893 and 1974. Low streets around Rosalie rely on clear stormwater drains when the rain is heavy.
Café terraces. Given and Latrobe Terraces and Rosalie village are known for boutique shopping, cafés and dining. Commercial kitchens can build up grease in their drains, and our commercial plumbing service keeps them flowing.

It can. On a block that falls away from the street, the sewer line may run to a connection at the back or side rather than the front. We locate it, clear the blockage and camera-check the line if needed.
