Signs It’s Time to Call a Plumber
Small warning signs often come before a blocked drain overflows:
Water draining slowly from the sink, shower or bath
A gurgle from the toilet when the basin drains
A toilet that needs two flushes or blocks regularly

One of Brisbane’s oldest suburbs. Most of Spring Hill was subdivided and occupied by the end of the 1890s, and many houses date from the nineteenth century. Underneath a cottage that old, the sewer may be decades-old pipework, and a cracked or shifted joint is where roots and debris tend to lodge.
Steep streets. The old tram up Edward Street and along Leichhardt Street was the steepest in Australia, with a gradient of 1 in 8. On sloping ground, stormwater moves fast, and a downpipe or pit choked with leaves can overflow against a wall or into a courtyard.
Mostly apartments. Three in every four Spring Hill homes were units at the 2021 Census, and two in three were tenanted. When one stack serves several floors, a blockage can affect the neighbours too, so we work with tenants, building managers and body corporates.

That usually means air or water is being pushed along a shared stack, often by a partial blockage further down. Let the building manager know. We’ll find the blockage and send a report to whoever signs off the work.
